There years come and go, but it feels just like yesterday as if I was sitting in the classrooms learning. I’ve experienced good things throughout my time at Troup high such as participating in sports and things I didn’t expect to partake in. Horticulture was a class I never thought I would take and I did and it broaden my horizons so much. There were also down sides, I was very quiet so I didn’t interact much and I didn’t expand a social next work. I took many AP classes but I didn’t not grasp the opportunities that’s it gave me such as taking the test for college credits. I would like to see Troup county school systems in general engaging with the students more. Also, teaching them more about college and the real world. For I took all of this for granted and now I’m a fifth year college student, 2 times drop out and struggle to pay for the last 8 classes I have to take.

Troup County Schools is an awful school district. The county leadership is terrible. There are far too many small town politics going on, and district officials prioritize such matters, instead of what's best for kids. The superintendent is in trouble with the NAACP for the overt racism in the county's school system, and the assistant superintendents are no better. As a parent I have watched the county office systemically remove school leaders who tried to to change the status quo. Principals who cared about doing right by kids, are removed because politically or socially connected parents complain that they are no longer receiving special treatment. This past school year 4 principals resigned because of these exact issues. We need new leadership! Superintendent Brian Shumate needs to go. Deana Brown needs to go! Tabatha Lawrence needs to go! Our children deserve leaders, not lap dogs to our small town elites.

I have been at Lagrange high school since my freshman year. My personal experience at Lagrange high school hasn’t been the best but I have made the best of it. It is my senior year and I am very excited to graduate with the class of 2024.
