Overview

The Hummer remains what it's always been, a recognizably imposing, uncompromising SUV with a distinctive design and extraordinarily adept capabilities once the sidewalk ends. Like its Hummer EV Pickup sibling, its exceptional off-road capabilities are faithfully preserved in EV form, with 13.0 inches of suspension travel, up to 16.0 inches of ground clearance and a 35.4-foot turning radius. That’s smaller than the Chevy Bolt EUV's. It’s all the more remarkable given the SUV's cutting-edge technologies, remarkable power output, and four-wheel steering, which makes possible its celebrated CrabWalk mode. It allows the truck to move sideways, making parallel parking this rig far easier. The Hummer EV SUV uses GM’s weighty Ultium EV Platform, boasting more than 300 miles of range and rapid recharge times. Like the pickup, its roof is removeable, and its high-rent interior is nearly identical, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument driver display and a center-mounted 13.4-inch touchscreen. Interior switchgear and controls are designed for use by gloved hands, and rear-seat room is generous. But given its 8,660-pound curb weight, care is needed when crossing bridges rated for four-ton vehicles.

What's New for 2025?

Having debuted in 2024, the GMC Hummer EV SUV returns unchanged for 2025 aside from two new optional paint colors, Solar Orange and Graphite Blue Metallic. However, unless you want your Hummer EV SUV painted Interstellar White, you'll pay extra for them.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2025 GMC Hummer EV SUV starts at $98,845 and goes up to $106,945 depending on the trim and options.

Last year’s base EV2model is no longer offered, making the EV2x the one to buy, as its options are identical to the pricier EV3X. The difference comes down to power, with the EV3x getting an extra motor that helps generate nearly 25 more horsepower. The EV3x X also comes with torque vectoring four-wheel drive, and a 10.49:1 rear and 13.26:1 front final drive ratio, as opposed to the 2X’s 13.26:1 front and rear final drive ratio.

    EV Motor, Power, and Performance

Based on the Hummer EV pickup truck–and hinted at by the superscript in their model names–the SUV version will be powered by two or three electric motors. The EV2X has a dual-motor setup that generates an estimated 625 horsepower and what GM is claiming to be 7400 pound-feet of torque. The EV3X has a trio of motors (one up front and two out back) with a claimed 830 ponies and 11,500 pound-feet. However, we've already explained why those incredible torque claims are misleading. We expect actual maximum torque ratings to range between 1000 and 1100 pound-feet. Compared with the pickup truck, the SUV has a shorter wheelbase (126.7 inches versus 135.6), which should make it more maneuverable in parking situations and out on the trails. It'll also inherit our favorite off-road goodies from the truck version, including four-wheel steering with CrabWalk and an adjustable air suspension with Extract mode that can raise it 6 inches. GMC also pulls at our heartstrings with a full-size spare tire mounted on the rear gate. Plus, there's an optional Extreme Off-Road package that brings special hardware that includes 18-inch wheels on 35-inch all-terrain tires, extra underbody protection, low-mounted cameras for improved visibility while maneuvering, enhanced axles with heavy-duty components, a locking front differential, and rear motors that can electronically mimic a locked diff.

    0-60-MPH Times

In our testing, the most powerful Hummer EV SUV hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, which is seriously quick for any machine, let alone one this big and heavy.

    View Photos

    Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The EPA estimates the Hummer EV SUV possesses 314 miles of range, 298 miles with Mud and Terrain Tires. We only saw 250 miles of range from its 170-kWh battery pack in our 75-mph highway test. Recharging can be quick, however. The SUV’s 800-volt architecture gains 100 miles of range in 14 minutes using a DC fast-charger. In our testing, the Hummer SUV required 128 minutes to charge from 10 to 90 percent and averaged a pull of 78 kilowatts. Otherwise, GMC says that a level 2 charger recharges at up to 19.2 kilowatts, providing 30 miles of range in an hour.

    Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe

With its standard tires, the Hummer EV SUV is rated for 59 MPGe city and 48 MPGe highway. Opt for all-terrain rubber and those numbers drop to 55 MPGe city and 45 MPGe highway. For more information about the GMC Hummer EV SUV's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.

    Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The interior of the Hummer EV SUV is part rugged and part Sci-Fi. Its three-dimensional dashboard boasts both vertical and horizontal air vents and a pair of large displays that include a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Rather than frustrate users for the sake of appearances, the Hummer has lots of hard buttons and physical switchgear, including a thick T-shaped shifter and a rotary drive-mode selector on the center console. The materials in the top-of-the-line Edition 1 also look very upscale, with leather-stitched surfaces and distinct bronze accents, but lower down on the dash and door panels are cheap plastic panels that look and feel out of place in a vehicle this expensive. Another defining feature of the Hummer's cabin is its removable roof panels. Called the Infinity Roof, the system allows users to lift off the four transparent Sky Panels and the I-bar above the front-seat passengers. Along with storage under the load floor, the SUV Hummer boasts an expansive 82 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seat folded, but the high cargo floor increases effort when loading heavy items.

    Infotainment and Connectivity

The Hummer's cutting-edge electric technology will be complemented by a large 13.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and extensive connectivity options. As with most GMC models, desirable content such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot is expected to come standard. We'd also expect available upgrades to include a powerful Bose stereo, built-in navigation, a rear-seat infotainment system, and wireless charging. The SUV Hummer is also available with a 6.0-kW onboard generator that can be used to power all sorts of equipment and even charge other EVs.

    Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Hummer EV SUV will have an enhanced version of GM's Super Cruise that will allow hands-free driving on the highway. We also expect it to have a host of driver-assistance technology that currently graces many mainstream models. For more information about the GMC Hummer EV SUV's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

    • Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
    • Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
    • Standard adaptive cruise control

    Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

The Hummer EV SUV comes with a similar warranty to other General Motors products, which means three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper coverage and five-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage.

    • Limited warranty covers 3 years or 36,000 miles
    • Powertrain warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
    • Hybrid components are covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles
    • Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit
